Who runs SnusRate

SnusRate is run by Edward Thomas, who is responsible for your data. Reach us at notifyedd@gmail.com.

What we collect

• Account: username, email address, a securely hashed password, and when you verified your email and accepted the terms.
• What you add: ratings, experience details, comments, photos, products and corrections you suggest, and reports you send.
• Private choices: your collection, hidden flavors and taste answers.
• Technical: a session cookie, an age confirmation cookie, and short-lived rate limit records that do not store your IP address in readable form. Our host may also keep standard server logs.
• Visitor counts: to count daily visitors without cookies, we make a one-way code from your IP address and browser that changes every day and is deleted within two days. If you confirm your age or sign in, that day's code is marked as a person, so bots can be told apart. We keep only the daily totals, how often each public page was opened, and the name of the website that linked to us. We don't record what you search for.

What is public

Your username, approved comments and photos, and your stars beside a comment are public. Your ratings also count toward community scores. Your taste answers appear beside your reviews only if you choose that. Your email address, collection and hidden flavors stay private.

Why we use it

• To run your account and show what you add, because you asked us to (contract).
• To keep the site safe, moderate content, prevent abuse and improve the catalog (legitimate interests).
• To show your taste beside your reviews (your consent, which you can withdraw in your taste settings).

AI processing

We may use an AI service, currently Anthropic’s Claude, to help organize comments, read ingredient lists from label photos and flag spam or rule-breaking content. Do not put personal details in comments or photos. A person reviews what gets published from label photos. We don’t let AI publish changes to your words without your consent, and we don’t use it to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Who we share it with

Only the services that help run the site: Hostinger for hosting and email, and our AI provider as described above. They may process data outside the European Economic Area under safeguards they provide, such as standard contractual clauses. We share data with authorities only when the law requires it. We don’t sell data or show ads.

Cookies

We use only two cookies, both needed for the site to work: one keeps you signed in until you close your browser, and one remembers your age confirmation for a year. The site owner's browser also has a third cookie that keeps their own visits out of the count. There are no analytics or advertising cookies, so there is no cookie banner.

How long we keep it

We keep your data until you delete your account. Deleting removes your account, ratings, comments, photos and preferences right away. Copies can remain in private backups for up to 90 days. Products you suggested stay in the catalog without your name. Rate limit records expire within hours.

Your rights

You can access, correct, delete or export your data, object to or restrict some uses, and withdraw consent. You can download your data or delete your account yourself under My preferences, or write to notifyedd@gmail.com. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.

Adults only

SnusRate is only for people aged 18 or older. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell members before it takes effect.
